6 Things You Missed At The Gen.T 2019 Unveiling At Rosewood Bangkok

On Wednesday, June 19, this year’s Gen.T honourees and Tribe members started arriving at the Rosewood Bangkok’s ballroom at 6:30pm, representing their best selves and ready to meet each other officially for the first time. 

By 7:30pm, a sit-down dinner ensued, with options of fish, beef or vegan prepared for the honoured guests.

Tamara Lamunière, the head of Generation T Asia, flew in from Hong Kong to join the event and personally meet the Thailand honourees. During dinner, she introduced the exciting next step of Gen.T 2019: The Gen.T Summit. For the first time ever, Gen.T is hosting a regional summit for the Gen.T community and those with the will to innovate and drive positive change in the world. Aiming to be a world-class event, the line-up of confirmed speakers for the Gen.T Summit drew murmurs and gasps from the dinner crowd. Some of the most exciting names include son of Pablo Escobar, Juan Pablo Escobar, founder of Wikipedia Jimmy Wales and Melati Wijsen, an 18-year-old environmentalist. 

Gen.T honouree Sakson Rouypirom

Gen.T honouree Sakson Rouypirom—known to all as Saks—was selected to be this year’s leader of the Gen.T education-themed CSR programme. Saks, who has been recognised for Sati, a non-profit organisation aiding at-risk youth in Thailand, recently started a new project called Urban Refuge. There are over 90,000 refugees living in Thailand. Unable to obtain employment, they often have to make hard decisions to keep themselves and their families alive. Having spent time with some of these refugees, learning of their inspiring story of survival and hope despite harsh realities, Saks has joined forces with several Gen.T honourees in alternate fields to bring to life programmes that will help carve the way for a better and more sustainable life for refugees. With the help of Gen.T honouree Virot Chiraphadhanakul, he is launching a computer programming course for refugees, while Chalee Kader, Garima Arora and Susannah Tantemsapya are collaborating for a refugee soup kitchen. 

And after the announcement, they all gathered in front of the stage for an impressive class of ’19 photo. 

The celebration continued on upstairs at the Rosewood’s retro record bar Lennon’s, where there was a free flow of wine and champagne—and even tequila. The bar was packed with honourees of present and previous years, as well as close friends. DJ Paulie worked the deck until midnight when the bar had to kindly tell everyone to go home.
