It’s that time of the year again when you’re greeted with red hearts, pink flowers and sweet nothings. Who cares if people think Valentine’s Day is meant only for couples? Single people can have a fun-filled, memorable day just like people in relationships—or even better. Being single is the perfect time to prioritise self-love; here are a few things self-partnered people can do on February 14.
- Take a bubble bath. Pour yourself a glass of wine, light a few candles, turn on your favourite playlist and then make yourself the most bubbly bath ever and luxuriate.
- Buy yourself something sparkly. Because who knows what kind of jewellery you like and want at the very moment better than yourself? Make it extra meaningful by engraving it or tying it to something personal or even your zodiac.
- Paint something. Do something creative if you’re worried about getting lost in your own thoughts of the past or the future. Art is the perfect remedy as it can increase feelings of peace, satisfaction and accomplishment. Most importantly, don’t worry about making it perfect. Part of the process is appreciating whatever the outcome of your painting looks like.
- Date your bestie. Call up your (single) friend and take advantage of all those Valentine’s Day offers for couples. Think massages, movies and special dinners. No one needs to know you aren’t actually a couple!
- Bake something delicious. Whether it’s chocolate chip cookies, strawberry shortcake or banana bread, whip up something delicious and with the spirit of love, offer them to your true loves—your friends and family—or those you see on a daily basis like your security guard or custodian to show them that you appreciate them.
6. Have a celebrity crush-themed movie marathon. Jump in your PJs and curl up on the couch in front of your home theatre to watch a lineup of your celebrity crush’s best work. Don’t forget the popcorn!
7. Watch a comedy show. Laughter is therapy. It has been proven that laughter helps relieve pain, stress and improve a person’s sense of well-being, which is why watching a stand-up show or comedy film is something to do on V-Day.
8. Disconnect from social media. It’s easy to lose sight of what is real when we are drowned in social media, especially on a day like Valentine’s Day. Take the opportunity to detox yourself from social media. Mute the digital world and get in touch with your own values and perspectives.
9. Have a spa night. Treat yourself to a massage, mani-pedi, facial, or even a fresh haircut. Come out on February 14, feeling like a new man/woman.
10. Go to a unique event. Have you heard about Maison Rouge/s Heartbreakland? An event made for singles or for those who are still healing from a nasty heartbreak, one of the highlights of Heartbreakland is the ‘smash your heart out room’ where you can pick a weapon of your choice and destroy, dismantle and demolish! It’s a one time only event filled with weird and wonderful interactive experiences that you won’t want to miss.
