Situated on the first floor of the colourful Siam@Siam Design Hotel is Chim Chim, the latest food-meets-art attraction in town. A nod to the Bauhaus movement, the decoration of the cafe and bar is saturated with high-octane hues and bold geometric shapes. The name Chim Chim, of course, means ‘to taste’ in Thai, but the concept is for you to taste with all your senses. On its two floors, installations from different artists rotate periodically making the space never static.
But what’s more important than the photogenic Jim Thompson upholstery you’ll be sitting on is what goes in your mouth. Equally Instagramable, the menu ranges from all-day breakfast to fresh homemade pizzas. But before digging into the morsels, order some drinks. Showing off the very best of Thai produce, the beverage list includes coffee from Roots, tea from Monsoon Tea, nutrient-rich smoothies and—now that the alcohol ban’s been lifted—selections of cocktails and beers. We recommend the mint mocha frappe, pineapple spritz and the nitro charged ginger lemonade.

For food, Chim Chim serves homemade favourites, generously and beautifully plated. The breakfast burrito with free-range eggs, Solane’s fennel sausage, cheddar cheese and fresh tomato salsa is served all day. But if you want to start your meal with a light salad, order the Hoki Poke salad with seasonal Iceplant and Japanese tuna sashimi. Crispy and absolutely delicious, the curious texture of the leaves make the experience so pleasurable.
Moving onto more carbs, pasta and pizza are a must when dining here. Whether it’s fresh homemade pasta or artisan dried ones, they have it all. The beef shank pasta is highly recommended, while the blue swimmer crab and giant tiger prawns also go well with pasta. For the pizzas, Chim Chim’s dough is fermented for 48 hours before being baked, resulting in a crispy, airy texture that is still chewy. The toppings we like the most are the smoked salmon and the classic Margherita.
Another dish that may interest you is the Chim Chim Zing Zing chicken burger. Made with brined battered chicken, tomato and tangy slaw on a homemade bun, the dish comes with a side of sweet potato fries.
