It’s been a month since the world learned about American celebrity Chrissy Teigen’s miscarriage through her Instagram. Sparking all kinds of discussion about miscarriages, from why we should talk about them more openly to whether or not we should “keep private matters private”, Chrissy, who’s known for being unfiltered and very open online, understandably took some time off her feed to process the loss with her family.
Now, one month later, she is returning to social life, announcing her cautious comeback with an emotional, heartfelt letter about the tragic but not uncommon experience.Â

The letter begins with sincere gratitude, assuring that each and every little word of condolence and kindness was read. Chrissy goes on to explain in enough detail what went wrong with the pregnancy. Perhaps the most moving and affecting part of the essay is when Teigen writes about how she made her husband John Legend photograph her in her moment of great despair, against his better judgment, as it was clear to her then that she would need the photos and would need to, in Chrissy fashion, talk openly about the experience.Â
I absolutely knew I needed to share this story.
