On June 15, 2020, L’Oréal Thailand announced the names of three outstanding Thai female researchers whose work has had a tremendous impact on the prevention of the spread of COVID-19. Arunee Thitithanyanont, Dr Naruporn Monmaturapoj and Dr Ananlada Chotimongkol have been recognised for the L’Oréal Thailand For Women in Science Special Fellowships for COVID-19, a special fellowship programme that supports healthcare workers, salon businesses and underprivileged people in Thailand under the L’Oréal Thailand COVID-19 Solidarity initiative. For their work in preventing the spread of COVID-19, they have each been given a grant of 250,000 baht by the honorary members of the programme’s jury, who have confirmed that the three women’s research has been a benefit to society.
Divided into three categories, the first award for Life Science was presented to associate professor Arunee Thitithanyanont from the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Science, Mahidol University, for her outstanding work in the research and development of COVID-19 diagnostic tests, therapeutic agents, vaccine for COVID-19 and the monitoring of the SARS-CoV-2 evolution.
Dr Naruporn Monmaturapoj from the Assistive Technology and Medical Devices Research Centre, National Science and Technology Development Agency has been recognised by L’Oreal under the category of Material Science for her distinctive study, Preparation and Properties of Hydroxyapatite/Titanium Composite for Microbial Filtration Applications.
And last but not least, the award of Technology Science went to Dr Ananlada Chotimongkol from the Assistive Technology and Medical Devices Research Centre as well for her study, DDC-CARE: A System for Monitoring People who may be Infected by Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19).
