Romance has always been the orbital axis for Van Cleef & Arpels, and the latest Midnight Pont Des Amoureux timepiece truly manifests the element. Initially released in the fall of 2019, the women’s watch Lady Arpel Ponts des Amoureux tells a story of two lovers meeting upon a bridge along the Seine. Beneath the nocturnal sky, a man and a woman separately walk the path illuminated by crystalline fountains and, at the stroke of midnight, the man with a rose behind him finally meets the love of his life. Sliding underneath her umbrella, the couple shared a kiss. Today, the narrative from Van Cleef’s range of Poetic Complications can now be worn by the gentlemen. Â
Enamelling
Within the 42mm Midnight case, the hand-painted grisaille enamel scenery on the dial serves as a whimsical, urban background to the unique mechanism, in which the female character tells the hours while the man on the right-hand tells the minutes. At midday and at midnight, the two will meet in the middle, as the narrative goes.
For the men’s timepiece, the painting has been reworked to accentuate a metropolitan feel. Presenting roofs, chimneys and the historical paving stones of Paris while the moon kisses the cityscape, the masculine version also presents the characters larger in size compared to the female watch. The bridge of white gold is also different with more geometric designs. Unchanged between models, however, is a button that can be pressed to relive the moment of the kiss.Â
