On the 50th anniversary of Apollo 8, mankind’s first orbit around the moon, Omega is releasing a new Dark Side of the Moon timepiece that is sure to make every space fan’s wish list.
The new watch features Omega’s famous Moonwatch movement and a skeletonised dial to show the main plate below, which has been given the texture of the surface of the moon through high-tech laser ablation.Â
The colours of this sexy sports watch reflects the two sides of the moon. The light side of the watch’s dial signifies the bright and illuminating side of the moon we see from the Earth, while the back of the watch represents the dark side that only astronauts get the privilege of seeing. Â
As the entire watch is from from a black zirconium oxide ceramic, Omega has decided to use a bright yellow as a contrasting colour to pick out all the little details, such as the chronograph hands and “Speedmaster” logo. Not only is yellow a colour many of us naturally attribute to a glowing moon in the dark sky, yellow is closely associated with speed and thus seen as an ideal choice for this new watch. The black and yellow colour theme extends to the strap, a combination of leather and yellow rubber peeping through.Â

To make the watch even more meaningful for enthusiasts of all things space, the words of Apollo 8 command module pilot Jim Lovell—”We’ll see you on the other side”—to ground control are engraved on the caseback.
The Omega Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Apollo 8 watch is priced at 338,000 baht.
