In 2015, Gucci announced a 10-year sustainability strategy in reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions coupled with a plan to protect the forests and the oceans.

After a successful G7 meeting at Biarritz, France in August last year, Gucci signed a fashion pact with French President Emmanuel Macron along with 31 other companies in the fashion and textile industry to promote global sustainability. Immediately after that, Gucci announced its intention to be entirely carbon-neutral within its operations and supply chain.

Among the measures taken include sourcing for low-impact, sustainable materials as well as implementing green processing techniques. Gucci has also eliminated the use of heavy metals in its leather tanning process. As for the leather, they are sourced from farming systems that are kind to the environment; one of the criteria is that the farms do not contribute to deforestation. The company has also switched to using recycled plastics as well as using recycled metals for their accessories and jewellery.
