Burberry has stepped up its commitment to the environment with the global roll-out of sustainability labelling across all key product categories. The new pistachio green labels will offer consumers comprehensive and easy-to-read information on the environmental impact of the brand’s products.

The new system will primarily inform customers about the amount of organic content or recycled natural fibres used in materials and carbon emissions compliance at production facilities. Ultimately, however, Burberry also wants to include information on social criteria such as workers’ wage levels and the provision of well-being programs.

“At the half-way point of our Responsibility Strategy to 2022, we remain dedicated to delivering tangible progress against our social and environmental targets, and our holistic, product-focused sustainability programs are central to this,” explains vice president of corporate responsibility at Burberry, Pam Batty.

Also on Earth Day, the British luxury house announced the launch of “ReBurberry Edit,” a capsule composed of models from its 2020 spring-summer collection that have been produced in sustainable materials. The 26 pieces include iconic trench coats, parkas, and capes made from Econyl fiber and bio-sourced acetate eyewear and outerwear in a new nylon made from castor oil and assembled using a polyester thread created from recycled plastic bottles.

The new pieces for men and women are available online from Burberry.com.
