Two great worlds collide as Comme des Garçons and Nike combine their styles and expertise into a collectable piece of footwear. First debuted back in March 2020 at Rei Kawakubo’s Neo Future themed FW20 show, the Nike Comme des Garçons Air Force 1 Mid is revered by fans as the pinnacle manifestation of sport and street. The Nike classic—Nike Air Force 1 Mid—has been redesigned by Kawakubo with panelled cut-outs and raw edges on the leather exterior. “Comme des Garçons” is embossed on the proprioceptors belt, marking officially this epic alliance.
For the FW20 show, Rei Kawakubo embraced the idea that it is impossible to make something completely new. On the contrary, the designer’s creative process involves looking into the world of Comme des Garçons for inspiration. This piece features an unfinished, raw and sculptural texture, unmistakably Kawakubo’s, while the Air Force 1 Mid blueprint is, too, undiluted.
