Rom Design Puts Thai Creatives Takarawong And Kanrapee Together In The 'Spotlight' | Thailand Tatler

From the mind of Rom Sangkavatana and his design studio, Rom Design, comes a new project that is not only passionate about highlighting charismatic new Thai artists but pairing them together in such a way that pushes the boundaries of their creativity. Known as ‘Spotlight’, the project aims particularly to mismatch artists in a twofold: first, by selecting artists who are already known for mixing and matching in their work and then second, by coupling artists who work in different mediums. The result is a collaboration such as the one between cult fashion designer Takarawong and street photographer Kanrapee, on display now at Rom Design in Ari.

Speaking about the photographer first, Kanrapee Chokpaiboon is an internationally acclaimed Thai street photographer with an eye for catching the quirks and occasional irrationality of Thai culture. Within the selection of his photographs used for this collaboration with Takarawong, you’ll find rampant juxtapositions, from hardness versus softness and wealth versus working-class to fearsome versus delight and more. These peculiar moments captured by the photographer served as inspiration for Takarawong’s subsequent contribution to the project.
