Fashionable trends will not make it into any of Flexform’s timeless creations. For over 50 years, the furniture brand has maintained a strong philosophy of inconspicuous elegance and pragmatism, led by a sturdy family management team. In 1959, the three Galimberti brothers, Romeo, Pietro and Agostino, opened a workshop called Flexform di Galimberti in the Brianza, Northern Italy’s furniture manufacturing district. It was in this historical setting that the family business grew for three generations.
Over the years, Flexform’s sofas and armchairs have been favoured by a growing number of buyers and after the war, pieces found their way into the elegant buildings in Milan, villas overlooking Lake Como and even the foyer of the Teatro alla Scala. In 1976, the firm was incorporated into Flexform S.p.A. and began a tradition of working with many prominent architects and creatives—notably Joe Colombo, Asnago-Vender, Cini Boeri and Antonio Citterio—who have greatly influenced the Italian design scene.
Flexform embodies a piece of history in the world of designer furnishing in Italy, and the appeal of our timeless products will endure for a long time, unaffected by fads that come and go.
The 70s harboured a major shift in the company’s conception of its product line. Washing away repetition of past styles, production saw more original and contemporary designs. This was also when the family opened up to the foreign markets beyond their home country. Nevertheless, at the core, the brand remained the same. The company values discreet elegance, which translates into clean, uncluttered shapes and soft, high-quality materials—never ostentatious in any manner. Indeed, understated refinement, discrete yet irresistible and affluent are terms used to describe Flexform’s aesthetics.
Soft Dream
Groundpiece
Every piece from Flexform is still designed and made in Meda, and all the materials are sourced sustainably in Italy. Because the brand has become an embodiment of the ‘Made in Italy’ label, the firm proudly crafts the best the country has to offer. Fabrics, leather, wood and metal chosen meet the highest standards. The goose down used is Assopiuma Gold Certified, guaranteeing respect for the environment and the animal.
Today we see the heritage of the brand in its signature sectional sofas. Groundpiece, for example, is the bestseller with its deep and low design, inviting relaxed and casual use. A piece that will give you sound naps, Soft Dream is fluffy with extra down. For more straightforward silhouettes, Lifesteel and Adda answer the call. Romeo is another great example of sectional sofas; highly practical, the sofa is created as blocks that can be moved according to what space and personal use demand. Materials are also customisable with options that cover all kinds of taste and needs to ensure your Flexform sofa is unique and tailored to you.
