Bangkok is a playground where you can’t get bored, especially when the nocturnal scene is ever-changing with new bars, like the latest Crimson Room.

It’s not only a challenge to find the entrance to this retro jazz bar but hearsay has it that the place is fully booked until next year. Hidden behind a wall at Velaa Sindhorn Village, Crimson Room brings back the glamour and subversiveness of speakeasies of the 1920s. Entering into the room padded with crimson velvet and embellished with brass details, the atmosphere has a nostalgic grandeur of an opera house. Swedish green marble countertops contrast with the dark red room, adding an extra richness.

The concept of the Crimson Room truly orbits around its performance stage, pervading through to the drinks. The menu is divided into four phases from refreshments to harder cocktails. Mimicking the show protocol, the list starts with light options like Dim the Light. Continue with Raise the Curtain to get yourself into that sweet spot.

There are also a few pleasant fruity numbers to take note of. Them Apples is for you if you are into bourbon with apple, while Lavender Mood is a beautiful aromatic blend of gin, blueberry and lavender cordial with grapefruit tonic. Another nature-themed signature is The Beepollen, which comes in a hand-blown bird glass and is on the sweeter side with caramelised bee pollen, thyme and citrus.

Strike the Band will be the strongest of categories, containing gin, menthol wine and rhubarb bitters. And if that’s not enough, then Take a Bow.
