Thailand is planning something huge for international travelers: 200,000 free domestic flights to help tourists explore parts of the country that usually don’t get as much attention. Reported by Travel + Leisure, the campaign is backed by the Thai government and could roll out between September and November 2026, right in time for high season.
If approved, the idea is simple. Book a flight to Thailand from abroad, and you could get a free round-trip flight inside the country. That means flying into Bangkok and then heading off to somewhere, without paying for the extra ticket.
What’s Behind the Plan?
Thailand wants to shake things up when it comes to where people travel. Most tourists stick to a few well-known hotspots like Bangkok, Phuket, and Koh Samui. While those places are definitely worth visiting, they tend to get overcrowded, especially during high season.
Another goal of the plan is to spread tourism income more evenly across the country. Smaller cities and rural areas often get left out of the tourism economy. This initiative could bring real benefits to local businesses and communities that don’t usually see many international visitors.
To make it work, six major Thai airlines are ready to participate: Thai Airways, Thai AirAsia, Thai Lion Air, Nok Air, Bangkok Airways, and Thai Vietjet. Together, they offer domestic routes that cover almost every region of the country.

Who Gets the Free Flights, and How?
According to Travel + Leisure, the offer will only be available to foreign tourists who haven’t booked their trip yet when the campaign officially launches. Once it’s live, travelers who book an international ticket to Thailand will be able to add one free domestic round-trip flight with a participating airline.
To claim it, you’ll have to go through the airline’s website. Each one will post the details and let travelers know how to redeem the offer. It’s first come, first served, and with 200,000 seats, demand will be intense.
One thing to note: this deal is just for international visitors. Thai residents won’t be eligible, and that part of the plan is already stirring up debate.
