Celebrating the Lunar New Year, which begins on February 12, Alessandro Michele has imagined a significant collection featuring the famous Japanese manga and anime character, Doraemon, which also turned 50 years old this year. Beloved by people all over Asia and beyond, the blue Japanese robot cat character is an embodiment of optimism, creativity and also a childhood icon. Â
This special collection for both men and women features the pop icon over the GG motif across a range of products, from clothing to accessories. Exclusively for the Year of the Ox, Doraemon is also disguising as a cow. Shedding his signature blue hue for a brown hide and a pair on horns, this unseen version of the character will be boasting itself on this limited edition Gucci creations.Â
For the campaign, photography was shot by Angelo Penetta while the video was directed by Akinola Davies. The pieces will be promoted through the brand’s digital platforms and select stores, including ones in Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Vietnam and, of course, Thailand. In addition, Doraemon will be seen on two Gucci ArtWalls in Shanghai and Hong Kong where he will pose over the GG motif.
