If you’re tired of overwater villas, the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island is taking things to the next level with the world’s first underwater residence. This November, their newest villa gives guests the best of both worlds—above and below the water.

Priced at a cool US$50,000 a night, “The Muraka”, named after the word for coral in Dhivehi (the local language of the Maldives) is a two-story hotel villa which will sit 4.9 metres (16.4 feet) below the surface of the Indian Ocean.

The upper level includes everything you could possibly need if you’re living out in the middle of the ocean: a twin-size bedroom, bathroom, gym, powder room with an ocean-facing bathtub, butler’s quarters, private security quarters, and an integrated living room with kitchen, bar and dining area which includes a 550 square metre sunrise-facing deck. The villa can accommodate up to nine guests at a time.

Once you’re done soaking up that Vitamin C, take the spiral staircase to the 102 metre (334 feet) undersea suite where you can relax in the king-size bedroom, living area and bathroom—and watch whale sharks, stingrays and lionfish swim by you as wash your face or enjoy a glass of wine.

The villa, which is designed by New Zealand-based aquarium technology firm MJ Murphy, features an expansive curved dome for a 180 view of all the ocean life around you. The residence, however, isn’t the first project Conrad Hotels and Resorts have built undersea. MJ Murphy was also the group behind the resort’s the famous underwater Ithaa restaurant at the same property 13 years ago.

Guests of Muraka who need a little land loving have full access to the Conrad Maldives Rangali’s two spas and 12 award-winning restaurants and bars, and array of ocean activities. Get that hashtag ready, a stay here would be truly Instagram-worthy.
