Patek Philippe: The Authorised Biography
Launched late last year, this is the definitive history of the legendary Swiss manufacture by renowned historian and author Nicholas Foulkes. Through exclusive interviews and original documents from company archives, Foulkes traces Patek Philippe’s history from founder Antoine Norbert de Patek’s early life as a cavalry officer in Poland to the 1932 purchase of the company by the Stern family, who have turned the business into the legend that it is today. The book includes over 600 stunning images, many specially commissioned from photographers Andy Barter, Richard Foster, Jonas Marguet and Jennifer Niederhauser Schlup. It can be ordered via patek.com and is also available at Patek Philippe Salons in Geneva, London and Paris, and from local authorised Patek Philippe retailers.
With sustainability very much at the forefront of today’s trends, good design can no longer simply follow the mantra of form follows function. So meet the DI Smart Wireless Switch, an alternative power source that is eco-friendly and has great design and functionality. This wireless switch uses energy-harvesting technology, meaning that it does not require any electrical wires, wi-fi or battery. Instead, it stores and uses the energy generated from vibrations created by body movement. Lightweight to match the mobility required by the modern urban lifestyle, it features a remote control distance of 170 metres outdoors and 30 metres indoors. A recent winner at the Thailand Green Design Awards (TGDA) 2017, the DI Smart Wireless Switch is the brainchild of Sasivimol Sinthawanarong, founder and design principal of JARKEN DI (Design Installation).
