Considered the most lavish of the Thai high society parties hosted around this time of year, the annual Thailand Tatler Ball is a highly-anticipated event on every socialite's calendar. As we get closer to our 27th anniversary, we take a quick glimpse at our balls of the past to remind us of how far we have come, most cherished moments and only the more exciting things that await us in future celebrations to come.
7 Years Ago: Thailand Tatler's 20th Anniversary
Who would’ve thought that Thai beau monde back in 2011 was this stylish? Our 20th anniversary was celebrated with nostalgic 90s vibes—complete with dancing and a hip 90s soundtrack. We didn’t hold back on the opulence either. Set at the Siam Kempinski, our guests were treated to the best of extravagances, including a white chocolate fountain and free-flow pate, oysters and prosciutto.
6 Years Ago: Thailand Tatler's 21st Anniversary
At 20, we were hip, on-trend and nostalgic for the 90s. When we rang in our 21st, we went full-on sophisticated sass. Held at the Sofitel Sukhumvit Hotel, the 21st anniversary ball was themed ‘Red Swans’ and saw a rouge takeover of the five-star premises. A lot might have changed in six years, but one thing has remained the same: when it comes to dressing up for a ball, Tatler people don’t mess around. From striking red satin ensembles to unabashedly feathery fab, our guests showed up on point and ready to party. True to the theme, there was also a ‘Red Swans’ fashion show in black and red, featuring Bee Namthip, Yo Yossawadee and Took Chanokwanan.
5 Years Ago: Thailand Tatler's 22nd Anniversary
‘Red Swans’ was quickly followed by ‘Golden Glamour’ for our 22nd anniversary ball. As the theme suggests, the evening saw Thailand’s social elite gathered for a memorable night of glitz and glam at the Renaissance Bangkok Ratchaprasong Hotel. With a guest list composed of everyone from industry captains and renowned entrepreneurs to dedicated philanthropists and potential leaders of tomorrow—all dressed to impress—the annual ball was a true celebration of the Thailand Tatler brand, Thai high-society and savoir faire. Not much has changed, except that the winner of Most Eligible Man that year, Dan Hetrakul, has left the eligible bachelors list.
4 Years Ago: Thailand Tatler's 23rd Anniversary
In 2014, we ditched the colour-based theme and went with lavish traits—‘Sparkling Tatler Style’. Set at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok, where we will be holding our ball this year, we took the sparkle concept very seriously for our 23rd anniversary with a glittering backdrop and a stage filled with sparkling fairy-lights. Guests were treated to a four-course gourmet dinner and an evening of mingling and photo opportunities. Also, Person Of The Year was founder and CEO of Minor Group William Heinecke—a fitting moment to look back on now as Minor Group celebrates the big five-oh.
3 Years Ago: Thailand Tatler's 24th Anniversary
After years of hosting glamourous evening soirees and anniversary dinners at this point, on our 24th we decided to go all the way with the utmost Tatler theme of ‘Universe of Elegance’. What went down? Over 400 of Thailand’s most prominent socialites gathered at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok, where we combined glamour with galaxy vibes. There was a gourmet dinner, entertainment including a Comanche show and a performance by Lydia Saranrat.
2 Years Ago: Thailand Tatler's 25th Anniversary
Ringing in our 25th anniversary, we figured the traditional ball was getting a tad too dull for our creative tastes. So under the theme of 'Silver Carnival', our guest list of society’s finest stepped up their style game for another glamorous celebration at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok. To turn things up even further, we took it upon us to release a four-part TV series that aired on Channel 9 to complement the anniversary ball. And so began our Thailand Tatler Heroes show, an idea sparked from company's interest in social responsibility. To find out more, check out an interview with chairman Nigel Oakins here.
Last Year: Thailand Tatler's 26th Anniversary
And finally, we arrive at our most recent Thailand Tatler Ball. Our 26th anniversary ball, themed ‘Lustrous Pearl’, was held at the Bangkok Marriott Marquis Hotel. The ball saw Thailand’s most prominent names from various industries dressed in their shimmering best. A lot may have changed in the past seven years, but it’s heartwarming to spot the familiar faces among the guests throughout the years—distinguished members of society who, over time, have become good friends. Thank you to everyone who has supported Thailand Tatler and our ball over the years. We look forward to seeing you this Thursday, September 27 for our 27th anniversary ball.
