“Twas brillig, and the slithy toves…” the opening words of Lewis Caroll’s whimsical nonsense poem Jabberwocky immediately came to mind when we saw the visually rich mise en scène of the location for our cover shoot. Vintage mystique and childhood dreams blended together—a brocaded shadow here, the gleam of marble top and brass ornament there—all part of the gorgeous Sretsis Parlour. Even the daisy-patterned carpets and hand painted flowers on the furniture seemed to form a secret garden in which to photograph our cover couple.
On the day of the photo shoot Pimdao and Darbois seamlessly changed from outfit to outfit, each carefully planned and made ready to ensure proceedings went as efficiently as possible. But then you’d expect nothing less from a lady with her finger on the pulse of fashion. Monsieur’s jackets for each shot were ultra dapper, perfectly matching Pimdao’s ornate garments—be it a flowing white dress, a flowery summer ensemble or a dramatic feathered gown. Pimdao herself also professionally structured the composition of each image, even down to the six hand-sketched storyboards and image references she produced for our team. The attractive couple—so obviously in love—were a joy to work with.
