Deep in the heart of Bangkok’s trendiest urban neighbourhood, Thong Lor, development has started on a new 27-storey residential destination that’s set to become a jewel in the crown for the city. Sansiri’s “Khun by Yoo inspired by Starck” is slated to open in 2020 and its newly launched sales gallery at J Avenue, just a stone’s throw away from the actual property on Sukhumvit 55, can be explored right now, allowing you to experience a full flavour of the much-anticipated development.
Featuring the same creative touches and high quality materials that will shine in the finished development, the new showroom in the sales gallery was also designed by Yoo, the firm launched by property entrepreneur John Hitchcox and designer extraordinaire Philippe Starck. Yoo has taken the architecture world by storm with its daring approach to residential and hotel design, as well as its roster of highly sought-after collaborators, including Marcel Wanders and Jade Jagger.
Its impact on the design world is immeasurable, with projects in 34 countries across Asia, Africa, Australia, Europe, the Americas and the Middle East. Yoo inspired by Starck is the brand within Yoo for the projects that Starck is working on, which means Khun by Yoo will feature plenty of Starck’s characteristic design elements.
The aesthetic of the two-bedroom, two-bathroom showroom acts as a stunning “sneak peek” at the final development. The materials have been chosen especially by Starck and it’s inspired by industrial heritage, marrying a sophisticated copper core with an exterior of insulated glass, punctuated by touches of raw concrete—a blend of materials that’s both distinctive and sophisticated.
The furniture pieces on display in the show unit echo those that are to be used across Khun by Yoo. There’s an eclectic mish-mash of brands and styles, and among this treasure trove you’ll spot ornate Barovier & Toso chandeliers handmade by artisans from the Murano region in Italy, as well as a minimalistic draped sofa from Busnelli’s Bohemian line. There’s Starck’s Lou Read throne for Driade, as well as his iconic Louis Ghost chair for Kartell.
The show residence exhibits the superior fittings and finishings you’ll find in Khun’s more utilitarian spaces like the kitchens and bathrooms, where Starck’s concept of prizing form and function equally can be appreciated. An Arabescato Chiaro marble top graces a sizeable kitchen island, while semigloss kitchen cabinets catch the light perfectly. Smeg appliances, including the fridge and oven, prove a pleasure to use as well as to admire.
The same Arabescato Chiaro marble forms the bathroom’s walls and sink counter, mixed in with classic mahogany for an organic kind of elegance. There’s a sink by Duravit, showers by Hansgrohe, bathtub by Kohler and tap by Axor which has been designed by Starck.
Future residents at Khun by Yoo will enjoy threemetre- high ceilings, spacious balconies and heat and noise-proof windows. The building comprises 148 one, two and three-bedroom units, with penthouse options and facilities such as a swimming pool, rooftop garden, fitness room, screening room, game room, valet parking and concierge service. Don’t wait until 2020 to see its doors open—experience the new sales gallery and showroom now.
