With its sunny colour palette, breezy functionality, and above all, an unmistakable holiday vibe, the tropical Hawaiian pattern plays muse to Paul Smith’s spring summer 2018 collection. Fish and flora are central characters, presented in quirky graphics or Japanese food packaging references.

Paul Smith’s vibrant new collection calls to mind 1980s Japan, when Paul himself chanced upon vintage food packaging at Tokyo’s Tsukiji Fish Market. It left him with a lasting impression, evidenced in the graphic marine prints – tuna and mackerel, specifically – throughout both men and women’s collections of tailored and relaxed shapes. Adding variety to the tropical landscape is an eclectic cast of floral, corals and Japanese koi carps, invoking an exotic surfer allure.
