The annual Italian Festival is back one again this month. Hosted by the Embassy of Italy to promote Italian culture, the festival provides Thailand's Italophiles with various cultural activities, including music, cinema and promotions on Italian goods.
Jazz lovers should also not miss out on this year's festival as the legendary Gianluca Petrella and Pasquale Mirra will be performing March 6 and 7.
An accomplished trombonist from a young age, Gianluca Petrella won Italy’s Django d’Or Award back in 2001. In the same year, he was voted Best Young Talent by the Musica Jazz's annual critics poll and in 2006 and 2007, Petrella was Down Beat magazine's Best Emerging Artist. Gianluca has worked with many renowned artists, including Roberto Ottaviano and Enrico Rava, and has established many of his own projects, such as Indigo 4, Tubolibre, Cosmic Band and SoupStar.
Also internationally acclaimed is Pasquale Mirra. Mirra is said to be the most productive vibraphonists in the jazz world, releasing more than 30 albums with names like Hamid Drake and Lansiné Kouyaté. Mirra has toured all over Europe and is finally paying a visit Thailand with this gig.
Sponsored by Cavallino Motors, the sole importer of Ferrari in Thailand, the Pasquale and Gianluca will be joining forces on Wednesday, March 6 at 7 pm, at Chulalongkorn University’s Music Hall. They will play for a second time the following day at 8:30pm, at the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, under the hotel’s framework of “New Italian Jazz at the Living Room”.
